Postnatal Care

Supporting You After Birth — Body, Mind, and Baby

Your care doesn’t stop once your baby is born. The postnatal period is a time of major physical, emotional, and lifestyle changes — and Dr. Affie Tourani is here to help you recover, adjust, and thrive. Whether you had a smooth delivery or faced unexpected challenges, the weeks and months after birth are important for your health and wellbeing. Dr. Tourani offers warm, ongoing support to ensure you're healing well and feeling confident in your new role.

What to Expect in Postnatal Visits?

Dr. Tourani typically sees you 6 weeks after delivery — or sooner if needed — for a thorough postnatal review, which includes:

  • Wound care (if you had a caesarean or perineal stitches)

  • Pelvic floor recovery and guidance on safe return to activity

  • Emotional wellbeing and screening for postnatal depression or anxiety

  • Breastfeeding support and management of mastitis or feeding concerns

  • Discussion about contraception and family planning

  • Review of your birth experience and any questions you may have

She will also check in with you earlier if any issues arise — whether physical, emotional, or practical.

You’re Not Alone After Birth

Many women are surprised by how intense the postnatal period can be. Dr. Tourani provides realistic, compassionate guidance and can coordinate care with:

  • Lactation consultants

  • Women’s health physiotherapists

  • GPs and psychologists

  • Parenting support services and maternal health nurses

Whether you’re navigating sleep deprivation, breastfeeding challenges, or mood swings — you’re not expected to figure it out all on your own.

Your Recovery Matters

Looking after a newborn is important — but so is looking after yourself. Postnatal care is about helping you feel physically well, emotionally strong, and supported in your new role. Dr. Tourani brings not only medical knowledge but also a warm, understanding presence. As both a women’s health expert and a mother, she genuinely cares about your journey. She creates a safe space to talk openly — no judgment, just support.
