Contraception Options

There is no single “best” method — the right choice depends on your individual needs and preferences.Dr. Tourani provides counselling and access to a wide range of contraceptive options, including:

Short-Term Contraceptive Methods:

  • Oral contraceptive pill (combined or mini-pill)

  • Contraceptive patch or vaginal ring

  • Condoms (also protect against sexually transmitted infections)

Long-Acting Reversible Contraceptives (LARCs):

  • Hormonal IUDs (e.g., Mirena, Kyleena)

  • Non-hormonal IUDs (Copper IUD)

  • Implants (e.g., Implanon inserted under the skin)

LARCs are over 99% effective, highly convenient, and can be easily removed if you wish to conceive.

Permanent Contraception:

  • Tubal ligation (surgical sterilisation)

  • Partner vasectomy (male sterilisation — often simpler and lower risk)

Family Planning and Pre-Conception Counselling

If you’re thinking about having a baby now or in the future, Dr. Tourani can help you prepare for a healthy pregnancy. Pre-conception counselling includes:

  • Reviewing your general health

  • Ensuring vaccinations are up to date

  • Checking for any conditions that could affect pregnancy

  • Discussing timing and fertility awareness

  • Lifestyle advice to optimise your chances of conception and a healthy pregnancy

Emergency Contraception

If you’ve had unprotected intercourse or contraceptive failure (e.g., condom breakage), emergency contraception is available and most effective when taken as soon as possible. Options include:

  • Emergency contraceptive pill (available up to 3–5 days after)

  • Copper IUD insertion (most effective method if inserted within 5 days)

Dr. Tourani can provide discreet, timely access to emergency contraception when needed.
